It measures average alcohol consumption over a period of approximately three months, indicates the level of alcohol use during that time period, and can indicate a pattern of excessive use—a behavior rather than an event.

A basic alcohol urine test is used to determine the consumption of alcohol measured by the metabolites broken down by the body and provides a detection window of approximately 8 hours.
